The Planning Commission generally meets on the first and third Wednesday of the month, except in August, unless there is no agenda. Meetings begin at 7 p.m. in the Board Chambers of the James J. McCoart Administration Building, 1 County Complex Court, Prince William, VA,  22192.

The meetings are open to the public.

Before some Planning Commission meetings a Work Session may be scheduled to discuss specific topics that will be brought to the commission for consideration and formal discussion. To view a list of the upcoming PC work sessions, click here.

Prior to a scheduled public hearing, property owners within 200 feet of the proposed case property are notified by mail of the upcoming hearing, and in the case of some applications, the homeowners association and/or civic associations are notified. The public hearing is advertised in local newspapers and the property is posted with public hearing signs.

During the public hearing:

• Planning Office staff presents an overview of the proposal;
• The applicant addresses the commission about the proposal, and;
• Citizens in support of, or in opposition to, the proposed change have an opportunity to give testimony.

The Planning Commission discusses the proposal and may question the case planner and/or the applicant and then make a recommendation to approve or deny the proposal. The Commission can continue the hearing or defer action on the proposal, but must make its final recommendation within 90 days of the first public hearing.

Agendas for Planning Commission meetings are available the week before the scheduled hearing. Meeting briefs are available after approval of the meeting minutes at the next scheduled meeting. To view the staff report for a particular case, click on the case name link in the agenda or brief.
