Covington 2008

W.S. Wally Covington, III was first elected Supervisor of the Brentsville Magisterial District in November 2003. He was re-elected to this office in 2007. Through the calendar year of 2009, Supervisor Covington was elected by his colleagues to serve as Vice Chairman of the Board of County Supervisors. Covington is also the Prince William County representative on the Jail Board.

 

During his tenure, Supervisor Covington was tapped by fellow Board members to serve as the Prince William County representative on several prominent regional transportation planning boards. Covington currently holds positions on the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) Transportation Planning Board; as a Commissioner on Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PRTC) and as Secretary of the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) Operations Board. Covington is also a member of the Transportation Steering Committee for the Virginia Association of Counties (VACO.)

 

As an elected official, Covington has also actively supported the growth of the arts, business and higher education in Prince William County. In January 2010, Supervisor Covington accepted an offer to serve on the Board of Directors for George Mason University/Prince William campus. Additionally, as a member of the Hylton Performing Arts Center Budget and Finance and Strategic Planning Committees, Covington has actively worked to raise funds to support Arts Center. During the past six years, Covington has served on the Board of Directors for Innovation at Prince William and is a member of the Prince William Regional Chamber of Commerce and Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce. Currently, Supervisor Covington is also a member of the Board of County Supervisors’ Audit Committee and serves as an alternate on the committee which reviews Prince William County Schools and Parks budgets. 

 

Covington received the 2009 “Community Vision Award” from SERVE (Securing Emergency Resources through Voluntary Efforts) and was honored as the 2009 Rainbow Therapeutic Riding Center “Hero.” Prior to his election as Supervisor, Covington represented the Brentsville Magisterial District on the Prince William Juvenile Court Services Board and the Prince William Courthouse/Jail Expansion Committee. Covington is a past president of the Centreville Ruritan Club, member of the Extension Leadership Council and Farm Bureau. Additionally, Covington held the offices of Chairman and Secretary during his tenure on the Prince William County Electoral Board. 

 

A graduate of Virginia Tech, Covington received his bachelor’s degree in agriculture and economics. He was conferred a degree of law from the University of Richmond. Covington maintains his solo civil law practice in the City of Manassas. Currently, he is a member of both the Prince William Bar Association and Virginia State Bar Association.

 

Wally is a life-long Northern Virginian, born in Centreville, in 1963. The Covington family makes their home in Nokesville, Virginia. Wally and his wife, Connie have three children.
