The Prince William – Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center began operations on April 15, 1982 with the opening of the Main Facility. This new regional jail facility replaced a County jail. The Modular Building was added and has been in operation since April 27, 1990. The Iron Building, which houses the Work Release and Electronic Incarceration Program, was added and has been in operation since June 30, 1989. The Central Facility became fully operational on Dec. 10, 2008. The operational capacity of the facility is 667. Together these four buildings make up the facilities of the Prince William – Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center, which is currently managed by Superintendent Colonel Pete Meletis.

Responsibilities of the Adult Detention Center (ADC): Protect the community by providing for the secure, safe and healthful housing of prisoners admitted to the ADC Ensure the safety of the ADC staff Conduct rehabilitative programs to reduce recidivism among released prisoners

The Prince William - Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center is located approximately 35 miles southwest of Washington, DC. The Regional Adult Detention Center serves Prince William County, including the towns of Occoquan, Quantico, Dumfries, and Haymarket. The jail also serves the independent cities of Manassas, and Manassas Park.

Prince William County also participates independently in the Peumansend Creek Regional Jail in Bowling Green, Virginia. The operational capacity of that facility is 336. Prince William County has 75 spaces allocated for its inmates who may be housed at Peumansend Creek.
