The Prince William Board of County Supervisors named Michelle L. Attreed as Prince William County’s Finance Director on Tuesday, May 6, 2014. She will start in the position on Thursday, May 15.
Attreed, who is currently Deputy Director of Finance and serving as acting Human Resources Director, began her career with the county in 1993 and has been responsible for the oversight of Purchasing, Financial Reporting and Control, Real Estate assessments, Tax Administration, Treasury Management and Risk Management. She also developed and implemented a County-wide Internal Control and Ethics Accountability program.
“Michelle brings tremendous experience to this position,” said Chairman of the Board of County Supervisors Corey A. Stewart. “Combined with her institutional knowledge and extensive knowledge of this community, she is a great asset to the organization.”
Attreed thanked the Board after the announcement. “I look forward to working with each and every one of you to best serve our citizens and to make our community one where individuals and families choose to live and work and businesses choose to locate. Thank you.”
Attreed holds a Masters of Public Administration, MPA, from George Mason University where she was the sole recipient of the 2011 John D.R. Cole Award for Outstanding MPA Student. She is licensed in the state of Virginia as a Certified Public Accountant and member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Government Finance Officers’ Association, Virginia Government Finance Officers’ Association and International City/County Management Association.
Attreed has been a resident of Prince William County since 1970 and graduated from Gar-Field High School. She resides in the County with her husband, Kevin, and three children, Corbin, Amber and Nolan.
