The Building Development Division of the Department of Development Services enforces the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code to ensure the buildings in which we live, work and play are safe. We are only one of many steps in the building construction process, and we deal specifically with reviewing construction plans and specifications, issuing construction permits, performing critical construction inspections and ensuring code compliance.
