Electronics Recycling Program  




 
 

Do you need a new Solid Waste Disposal Residential User Decal for access to the Landfill?

Prince William County residents are urged to properly dispose of or recycle electronics at 
PWC Landfill or Balls Ford Road Compost Facility (BFR Compost Facility). There is no charge to County residents for this service. Electronics will not be accepted from businesses (see below for alternative sites). Collections will be held at:

PWC Landfill: Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
BFR Compost Facility: Second Sunday monthly, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.Ewaste Unloading

ELECTRONICS COLLECTION GUIDELINES: Electronics used for personal use are accepted only from residents of Prince William County and the Towns of Occoquan, Quantico, Dumfries, and Haymarket with items from their households. See Page 11 of the Landfill Rules, or call PWC Landfill at 703-792-5750 or BFR Compost Facility at 703-335-8181 for more information. A maximum of three (3) items will be accepted.

 

The following items and their accessories are accepted in the Electronics Recycling Program:

  • Computer (CPU), notebook/laptop computer, and computer monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.
  • Small printers and small copiers**, fax machines, and scanners (all cartridges must be removed)
  • Televisions, including picture tube, projection LCD and plasma types
  • VCR's, CD/DVD players, stereos (no speakers)
  • Telephones and cellular phones

    TVs Stacked

  • Computer cables and cords, chips and cards, and miscellaneous circuit boards
  • Other related electronic equipment

     

 **Laser jet copiers/printers and larger printers generally go in the metal pile to be recycled. 

You may also recycle small electronic products via USPS or check EPA Wastes Quick Finder.

 

ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED as part of the Electronics Recycling Program, can be disposed of at the PWC Landfill or BFR Compost Facility during regular working hours are:

  • Kitchen appliances
  • Any appliances containing Freon (refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners)
  • medical equipment
  • stereo or radio speakers

Know Toxics for your safety and awareness so that you dispose of your household hazardous waste properly. 

Information for Businesses - Electronics used for businesses are not accepted at the County's Solid Waste sites.

BUSINESSES can check with the supplier of their electronic equipment for information regarding electronics recycling programs. Also refer to the International Association of Electronics or the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality - Computer and Electronics Recycling Web sites.
