Need a new Solid Waste Disposal Residential Decal?

Where and how to take out the trash

Residents and businesses in PWC can dispose of their trash and recycling in many ways. Click on the links below for more information aLandfill Overviewbout the facilities, rules, directions, hours, etc.

  1. Hire a private Refuse Hauler (see Hauler Information List)
  2. PWC Landfill on Route 234 (Dumfries Road) Independent Hill
  3. Recycling - information on what to recycle and the locations of drop-off collection centers
  4. Household Hazardous Waste disposal
  5. The Too Good To Waste Place (reopened with new rules)

PWC residents, Homeowners Associations, and business owners may hire a private refuse hauler to collect trash/recycling from their home or business. The hauler charges for collection and transportation (not disposal) of the refuse. This is a contract between you and the private refuse hauler. Trash Disposal areaIf your hauler fails to provide trash or recycling removal services or regularly misses pick-ups, call the company directly to report the problem. You can find the appropriate phone number on the side of your trash can, on a bill or on the Hauler Information List. If the hauler fails to respond, you may request assistance through a Refuse Hauler Complaint Form or you may call the Solid Waste Administrative Office at 703-792-6254 or 703-792-4670. We will work with your hauler to improve your service.

Use of the Solid Waste facilities is limited to residents of, and commercial establishments doing business in, Prince William County, the towns of Dumfries, Occoquan, Haymarket or Quantico and refuse removers having a valid refuse permit issued by the Department of Public Works. Proof of residency is required. Solid Waste Disposal Residential Decal, personal property tax receipt, real estate tax receipt or valid Virginia motor vehicle operator's license may be used as proof of residency.

PWC residents and businesses may bring their trash/recycling to the Landfill at no charge; however, this trash must be generated in Prince William County. For residents of the towns of Dumfries, Occoquan, Haymarket or Quantico charges are applicable as shown on Page 10 of the Landfill Rules. If you attempt to bring trash from other places, there are penalties. Bring proof of your County address when you come to the PWC Landfill or PWC Yard Waste Composting Facility at Balls Ford Road. Weekends are usually very busy, and you may have a long wait between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. We suggest that you visit during the week so that you will not have to wait in line.

Cover Your Load ImageCover Your Load - One of the main sources of litter on roadsides comes from trash blown from vehicles on their way to a disposal site. It is not only dangerous, it is illegal to transport unsecured and/or uncovered loads of debris. The Prince William County Code Chapter 22 Update and Revisions Section 145 requires any person transporting refuse to do so with a vehicle equipped with a secured cover to prevent the escape of refuse while in transit. People who fail to cover their loads are subject to fines. Therefore, please be sure to secure or cover your waste before you drive on the road.
