Mixed Paper Recycling

Let’s Mix it Up at the Curb!

Prince William County residents can now RECYCLE mixed paper at the curb!

(Click here to read Mix it Up at the Curb en Español).

Your refuse hauler will now take white/colored paper, magazines, catalogs, junk mail (including envelopes with clear windows), and empty non-waxed food boxes (i.e. cookie and cereal boxes - no frozen food boxes; boxboard only) on your recycling day with all other recycling materials. Just put it at the curb with the other materials you recycle.

Here's how it works: Recycling Logo

  • Place newspapers in a brown paper bag (do not use twine)
  • Place all other mixed paper in a separate paper bag (includes flattened boxboard, i.e. cereal boxes)
  • No large cardboard boxes. Large cardboard boxes will continue to be accepted at the PWC Landfill & Balls Ford Road Yard Waste Compost/Recycling Facility
  • Only paper that can be torn; (no plastic coated items, such as overnight shipping envelopes)
  • Place all shredded paper in a clear plastic bag
  • No food or other contaminants (waxed, foil, or coated paper)

Remember to continue to recycle rinsed glass, plastic, and metal cans.

Recycling paper saves valuable landfill space and helps protect our natural resources. Did you know that recycled paper requires 50% less energy and up to 75% less water than making it from virgin fiber?

All your residential recyclable material will continue to be accepted at the PWC Landfill, PWC Yard Waste Composting Facility at Balls Ford Road, and the 16 Recycling Trailers located throughout the County.

Thank you for recycling. For more information, call 703-792-4670 or Learn more about Trash & Recycling at the Solid Waste Management Home Page.
