![]() Residents, Homeowners Associations, and business owners may hire a private Refuse Hauler (see list) to collect trash/recycling from their homes or businesses. The hauler charges for collection and transportation of refuse. The contract is between you and the private refuse hauler.
The County, however, does handle the disposal of refuse/recycling, and this is what comprises the fee you pay each year on your real estate tax bill. This fee is used for landfill operations, household hazardous waste disposal, recycling services, yard waste and composting, and other solid waste programs. For more information on the fee, see solid waste fees.
Because private refuse hauling companies no longer pay a tipping fee at the PWC Sanitary Landfill or the Balls Ford Yard Waste Composting Facility, they should pass on this savings to you, and charge you only for collection and transportation of your trash/recycling. When selecting a hauler, you may consider the following:
Currently, there are several haulers with permits. Their contact information is available on the Hauler Information List. You may compare haulers for competitive prices and selection of services. Price depends on number of collections per week, contracts and service areas. Prices are subject to change and are often negotiable. The County does not regulate the prices charged. This is a contract for services between you and your hauler. If your hauler fails to provide trash or recycling removal services, call the company directly to report the problem. You can find the appropriate phone number on the side of your trash toter, on a bill or on the list below. If the hauler fails to respond, you may request assistance through a Refuse Hauler Complaint Form. Learn more about Trash and Recycling at the Solid Waste Division Home Page. |
