Do you need anew Solid Waste Disposal Residential User Decal?
Prince William County (PWC) residents are encouraged to bring yard waste, such as grass, leaves and small branches, to the Ball
s Ford Road Compost Facility (BFRC Facility). (Location & Hours) Composting these materials saves precious space at the landfill. Compost operations divert approximately 14% of the waste that would normally be sent to the landfill for disposal. Yard waste is composted into a useful soil amendment. This soil amendment helps enrich soil by adding nutrients and enhancing clay soils by creating spaces where air can flow through the clay.Use of the Solid Waste facilities is limited to residents of, and commercial establishments doing business in, Prince William County, the towns of Dumfries, Occoquan, Haymarket or Quantico and refuse removers having a valid refuse permit issued by the Department of Public Works. Proof of residency is required. Solid Waste Disposal Residential Decal, personal property tax receipt, real estate tax receipt or valid Virginia motor vehicle operator's license may be used as proof of residency. There is no charge to drop off refuse, recyclables, or yard waste for Prince William County residents. See the Solid Waste Regulations and BFRC Facility Rules.
Materials Accepted for Composting
Residents, refuse haulers, and commercial establishments may drop materials including leaves, grass, brush, logs (up to 24 inches in diameter and no more than four feet long), garden trimmings, and hedge trimmings.Yard waste can be delivered to this facility loose in plastic bags, or preferably in Kraft paper bags. At the PWC Landfill, leaves brought in plastic bags must be emptied, and the plastic bags should be disposed of as regular trash in the trash receptacle. Other yard waste materials may be accepted with prior approval. ![]() Start a Backyard Compost Program - Fall is a great time to start a backyard composting program.
