On Sept. 1, 1998, the Board of County Supervisors established a County-wide solid waste fee to fund landfill operations and related services, and to repay the debt. The landfill will serve Prince William County's (PWC) solid waste disposal needs until approximately 2050. The fee funds programs and services that citizens have come to expect and want, including the citizen convenience areas, recycling programs, household hazardous waste collection sites, yard waste composting operations at the PWC Landfill and the Balls Ford Road Compost Facility. The fee allows the County to offer collection sites for residents in rural areas to dispose of their regular household waste every Saturday. The County also supports annual cleanup efforts in each magisterial district by providing dumpsters at designated neighborhood locations. Because there are disposal areas available at several locations, residents now have the option to dispose of their own trash or hire a refuse hauler to collect and transport it for them. Residents and businesses should consider the following when planning future refuse disposal costs:
The Solid Waste Fee appears as a separate line item on the Real Estate Property Tax bill. The fee is divided in half between the June and November tax bills. Annual Residential Fees
*Apartments are billed as a business. Annual Business and Non-Profit Organization Fees Businesses and non-profit organizations will be assessed based on their actual refuse generation amounts per year. This information is based on actual records or by the number, size and pickup of your refuse containers. If businesses and non-profits do not have this information, the County will estimate generation based on the type and square footage of a business or non-profit organization. Adjustments can be made in future billings if businesses or non-profit organizations can supply annual waste generation amounts based on the Prince William County Code of Ordinances, Chapter 22, Refuse, Article VII. Solid Waste Disposal Fee System. Once you receive your bill, if you feel the Solid Waste fee assessment is incorrect, call 703-792-6254 or leave a message at 703-792-7630 (after hours). The Solid Waste Division will review the bill and the waste generation amounts assessed to your property and may assist in assessing waste generation amounts by visiting sites or facilities. If you would like to discuss the fee in person, call 703-792-6254 to schedule a meeting. For other Tax Assessment related questions you may call Taxpayer Services.
